Youth in sub-Saharan Africa account for 60 percent of the unemployed, and nearly three quarters of people ages 15 to 24 live on less than $2 a day.
How does your innovation work?
The National Apprenticeship Program in Ghana harnesses the knowledge and experience of firms and entrepreneurs to empower unemployed youth through training. Innovations for Poverty Action’s project tests a performance-pay scheme in which training providers (i.e. firms) receive pay based on the skill level of apprentices and their outcomes.
Next Steps
The results of these tests will help the Government of Ghana and other governments to improve or expand large-scale apprenticeship programs.
